A little more than two years after the launch of their e-shop Small Garden in April 2011, Sikó Bori and Sikó Balázs decided to open a brick and mortar. Located in the heart of Budapest (Hungaria), the store carries local and International brands (Ferm Living, Soft Gallery, Mini&Maximus, Djeco…). Sikó, architect and Sikó, graphic artist take you to Budapest.
Can you tell us more about you? We are Sikó Bori (architect) and Sikó Balázs (graphic artist), we have a common enterprise for 9 years – a graphic studio (coqdesign.com). We started our children design project in January 2011 (kiskakas.co.hu) where we designed and produced exercise books, wrapping papers, stickers and pencil cases (kiskakas.co.hu/sb/). We also collaborated with other designers, as a result of which wooden animals, chocolate wrapping, and textile toys were created. (kiskakas.co.hu/kozosen/)
What brands do you sell in the store? The Hungarian brands are Kiskakas, Marbushka, Nami, Eszterda, Manuela and Csimota; whereas the foreign brands are Ferm Living, Soft Gallery, The Brand, Mini&Maximus, Kids on the Moon, MonPetitArt, Makedo, Djeco.
What are the two most successful? To be honest, we can’t name a most successful brand yet, all of them are selling at about the same rate.
What age group do you cover? 0-14 years
Where do you do your buyings ? We aren’t buying at trade shows. With the Hungarian designers we are close friends. The foreign brands we got to know on our travels abroad. So we order from them, whenever it’s necessary.
What type of clients do you have? About 50 local -50% tourists
Are you parents? Yes we have two daughters: Bella is 10 years old, Miriam is 4. – http://kiskakasblog.hu/
What are your favourite places in Budapest? The place where we opened our street shop is a really nice part of the city: next to our shop there is a big, old café (gerloczy.hu) with a boutiquehotel, and another one with a design shop (welovebudapest.com). Our other favourite places which we showed on our blog: Ecseri piac – flee market, Mobelkunst – second-hand design furniture, Kő leves – restaurant, Sugar shop – candyshop, Cukorka – sweet fabric.
