Created by Utah based designer Emily McMaster, Mabo is a small clothing line focusing on simple, comfortable yet chic styles for boys and girls from 0 to 9 years. When looking at the collection – mainly using organic cotton- you realize that, indeed, sometimes less is definitely more.
All started when Ruby, Emily McMaster’s daughter, caught other moms attention by being one of the best-dressed little girls in the hood, first in New York, then in Salt Lake City. Emily made most of Ruby’s clothes herself searching flea markets for vintage patterns and developing a sweet spot for checked A-line dresses, striped cotton tees and little floral bloomers. In 2010, she decided to take the plunge and launched Mabo Kids.
I like everything about Mabo: the comfortable yet stylish cuts of the clothes, the timeless styles, the softness of the materials, the color combinations, the playful details and the fact that they make parents life easier: the pieces are easy to wash, easy to fold, easy to wear, easy to mix and match with whatever is in your wardrobe, look good and are affordable. An additional perk is that it is easy to pass on to the next child because the quality is awesome. Mabo is really the quintessence of modern casual chic.
They also carry one of the sweetest layettes I have seen around. Their organic cotton layette bundle is simply too cute to resist the temptation and is a great gift idea for a baby shower.
All garments are designed and manufactured in the USA in small volumes and are made from natural, organic materials: cotton and linen for summer and cozy wools for winter .
Emily’s design approach to children ‘s fashion can be summarized with her quote: ” kids grow up so fast. You might as well put them in something cute.” Totally agree with that!
