Play is Work : Leather, Felted Wool and Organic Cotton

The new Play is Work collection by Kaija Vogel cleverly brings together functionality, style and the love for simple, beautiful materials. Spot on this truly innovative line from London.

Play is Work mixes tradesman’s workwear and folk clothing Bauhaus philosophy and Scandinavian aesthetic, Waldorf and Montessori. The result is as beautiful as a Bruno Munari book : bold, pure, playful and clever.

For the leather pieces, Kaia the founder and designer took a long time to source the most adapted quality that she found in Italy : soft and vegetable tanned, so that it is non-toxic for the children and for the environment. Who would have guessed that using leather in a children’s collection would have resulted in something so pleasant ? It’s like a second skin for children, and absolutely easy to care as all the garments can be washed at home on a gentle cold hand wash cycle. Daily care involved just wiping away dirt and food with a wet baby wipe or a damp cloth.

The new ingredient in the collection is the traditionally felted wool. It is a great mix and match with the leather and behaves similarly in the home wash process. With it come hand knit wool accessories from 100% British lambs wool…very soft. The pieces are fun, based on medieval armour and can be worn in a verity of ways – arm bands, gloves, leg warmers; your child’s imagination will find out (the Robin Hood hat is a must!).

Introduced last season and still in the collection are the denim and cotton pieces, which bring versatility and a bright touch of colour. Minstrels, knights, troubadours and beautiful ladies, en scène!
