Julie Vianey shares some of her experiences as a stylist.
Julie Vianey is a freelance kids and fashion stylist based in London with 15 years experience. She has worked for iconic brands such as Burberry, Kenzo, Hugo Boss, Zara, Lacoste, Levi’s, Lucky Brand, Petit Bateau,Selfridges, Jacadi and many more.
Describe your ‘styles’ as a stylist?
Colourful and quirky. I love mixing different prints and textures together to make something unique and sophisticated. Mixing high fashion brands with smaller designers. I take my inspiration from cinema, art, dance, and costume.
What do you love about Kids’ fashion?
Instead of following seasonal trends with kids fashion, each brand has their own identity which allows you to have a lot of freedom to be more creative. You have a lot of opportunities to play with proportions and shapes. With kids you don’t always have control over them and most of the time that leads to spontaneous pictures and you can get some surprising results that were unexpected.
Describe your biggest style ‘challenge’?
It was definitely when I worked on this advertising campaign for an American hotel chain. I had to provide clothing and style 400 people on a very short timeline while travelling to different cities. The challenge was not so much in the styling but in the logistics of finishing everything on time. But it was a success in the end!
" The comment I get the most is that my styling is very 'French'. Which always makes me laugh because that’s what I am!

What makes a good relationship between:
Stylist and photographer?
I have photographers that I have worked with for over 10 years. We are good friends and that makes shooting go really smoothly.
We have similar tastes and trust each other’s vision. In the end, a photoshoot is a team job and when we are all on the same page that helps a lot.
Stylist and model?
I always make sure they are comfortable in what they are wearing. That they are relaxed and enjoy the atmosphere. I talk to them, let them enjoy the moment and most importantly let them be kids!
The comment that someone said about your work that made you smile?
The comment I get the most is that my styling is very “French.” Which always makes me laugh because that’s what I am!
