Les Landes, South West of France

I have spent all my summers in Les Landes as a child. My parents fall in love with the place and bought a house there soon after I was born. Les Landes is located in South West of France; it is a long strip that goes from South of Bordeaux to North of Biarritz. It was planted with pine trees under Napoleon, to fix the moving sand ground.

The long white beaches are protected by sand dunes and the weaves are pretty decent. Biarritz and Les Landes hosted the first surfers in Europe, in the 50’s. It is now the capital of European surf, with its competitions and surf brands headquarters (Quicksilver, RipCurl, Oakley…).

Florence Rolando
